Writer's Block Magazine

For over 15 years, Writer’s Block has been a creative platform for emerging writers, run by UvA students. From humble beginnings in 2007, the magazine has grown into a beloved publication showcasing English-language prose, poetry and essays.

But, running the magazine has not been without its difficulties. The impact of the pandemic and other challenges forced us to adapt, leading to fewer issues and a temporary shift to online formats. This year, we are more determined than ever to bring the magazine back to print and continue supporting new writers-but we can not do it without your help.

Pressing play on this new era, we move forward with the belief that writing is a moment of great vulnerability and intimacy. Writer’s Block strives to be a safe haven for your words- whether you choose to remain anonymous or sign your name, we are here to ensure your voice is heard.

At Writer’s Block, we understand the frustration of feeling creatively blocked. We know the beauty that comes after overcoming this obstacle. Writer’s Block is that moment of resolution, where creativity flows freely and your words find their home. Writer’s Block has created this space, embracing the digital world with weekly posts from our editorial team on our website and with separate print issues composed of outstanding external submissions.
