Meeting The Board: Elise & Sona

The new editorial board of Writer’s Block would like to introduce itself to you. First of all, our new Editors-In-Chief.

Elise van der Linde – Editor-in-Chief

I’m Elise, also known as the Writer’s Block veteran. You would think that after three years I would know how to write an introduction piece but it never gets easier to write about yourself. This year, I’ve stepped up to work alongside Sona as Editor-in-Chief and will continue to do the graphic design for Writer’s Block. Besides Writer’s Block, I am currently in the New Media & Digital Culture MA at the Uva and work at the cat cafe Kopjes. In terms of writing, I enjoy writing reviews or short essays for our precious website, and spend my free time doing short free verse poetry and short stories–that is, if I’m not suffering from writer’s block.

Sona Simonian – Editor-in-Chief

Hello! My name is Sona, I’m 21 years old and I’m currently in my third year of the English BA. You might recognize me from last year. I used to be the Social Media Manager, but Megan is taking that job over this year. Now, together with Elise, I’ll be Editor-in-Chief. I’m ardently in love with both Haruki Murakami and Claude Monet, passionate about sleeping, an avid fan of Eurovision and a slow walker. I happen to practice the art of bullet journaling. Sadly enough, Toto is still a figment of my imagination. I’m also too much of a scaredy-cat to finish watching Stranger Things. Been stuck on 01×04 for about 9 months now. I know, it’s embarrassing.

I’m a lot of things, but most of all: I’m really looking forward to working with the new board this year and to reading all of your wonderful submissions. I can already tell it’s going to be dandy.

  1. […] In my second introduction almost two years ago I wrote how I had been stuck on S01E04 of Stranger Things for about 9 months now. If you do the quick math, you find out that is almost my whole career at Writer’s Block. I have fond memories of my time with the magazine. I have made several good friends, published amazing pieces of art, gained more confidence in my own writing, learned how to work with and lead a team of talented people, but I also made a bunch of mistakes and probably even hurt people a little sometimes. I worked on a total of 11 magazines, wrote (including this one) 19 separate website articles, and shared board membership with 22 different individuals. Although just numbers, I did enjoy doing the work and being with the people. However, this journey is soon to be over. […]
