Pia Jung – Editor in Chief
Pia is an English Bachelor’s student at the UvA, interested in everything and anything creative. She has found creative outlets ever since she could walk, including filming, acting, singing, playing in a band, painting, and especially writing. She loves spending time in nature, cooking, baking, meditating, exercising and discovering new ways of living life in peace. With a childish soul, Pia will be silly and crack jokes, rewatch Gravity Falls twice a year and be brutally honest with an insatiable curiosity for life.
Victor Keyser – Editor in Chief
Victor is a writer, a musician, and above all obsessed with anything even remotely strange. In this Literary Studies program he is passionately committed to stories and theoretical work centred on hauntings, surrealist transformations, and cryptic scramblings of text. As a musician he has worked on a wide range of different projects with different artists, ranging from loud & heavy live groups to immersive film soundtracks. Besides his proclivity for the weird, he has a dog-shaped hole in his heart that will one day be filled with a wise and jumpy pup.
Capitu Sarah Nossiter – General Editor
Capitu is a second year English Bachelor’s student at the UvA. As a Brazilian-American who grew up in Italy, she frequently feels out of place and literature has always been her refuge. She’s been an avid reader since a young age and she lives by Salinger’s Franny and Zooey as if it were her own personal Bible of sorts. Beyond literature, she’s extremely passionate about music and film, spending hours making playlists and rewatching the classics that shaped her childhood. She also loves football and baseball and is a devoted AS Roma and NY Mets fan!
Maia Popa – Final Editor
Maia (or M, as she also likes to be called) is a second year BA student who is fulfilling her dream of being able to say that she is an English major. She likes to keep busy, and when she’s not checking off boxes on her endless daily to-do list, she can be found roaming through the foggy graveyards in her mind which feed her gothic soul. According to her, leaving the house
without a good outfit on is an atrocious crime, and she has a sweet spot for thrifting vintage clothes. Amid her favourite things in this world are cats, cozy fall days and late nights spent in the city with her friends.
Jomma Groot – Final Editor
Born in Amsterdam, but raised in Haarlem, as her parents followed the stream of suburbanization, yet finding herself returned to the city that’s stamped into her passport. Jomma is currently a second-year student of the English Language and Culture bachelor at the University of Amsterdam. If she is not on a quest for more music, she is likely invested in a good book or a movie, often unreachable as she hides in the dark of the movie theaters. And afterwards, she’s not afraid to show her teeth in a critical review… Or she will tenderly hide her emotional response in a poem.
Haeyeon Jang – Secretary
Haeyeon is a master’s student in the English Literature and Culture programme at UvA. She is particularly interested in contemporary literature with her current thesis focus on romanticism and realism in contemporary artist life-writing. She tends to have a conceptual and philosophical approach to her research. When she is not busy with literary studies, she also composes and produces fusion music for personal projects and has a wide interest in craft of artistic expression beyond literature—all except cooking.
Robin van Minnen – Graphic Designer
A writing-curious reader with a fear of committing words to paper, Robin enjoys crying over the scores of stories she’s yet to write. From an early age, she’s been passionate about painting, illustration, and animation, and at one point even dreamed of moving to Japan to become a manga artist. In her free time, she enjoys exploring new places by bike, singing to herself, hiding away in film house Rialto, and grappling with the guitar. Baffled by politics and the audacity of politicians, she’ll forever be haunted by Mark Rutte’s faulty memory and the enigma that remains covfefe…
Emel Peksöz – Social Media Manager
An ardent lover of literature, writing, language, and, in spite of the horrors of late-stage capitalism, learning. Growing up as a quiet girl who never quite managed to fit in, Emel found solace in her solitude through the world of words. Her premature exposure to abysmal fanfiction, Tumblr posts, and existential dread led her to become a devotee of literature, so all’s well that ends well. A hopeful romantic with a wistful disposition, Emel reads and writes to make sense of the strange Earth she finds herself inhabiting and to envision beauty and wonder in all of its strangeness. When she is not reading or writing, you are likely to find her watching football in quasi-hooligan style, plotting world domination, learning a language, and, as of recently, getting in her daily steps and moderate to vigorous movement. Whatever she does, Emel vows to be in the pursuit of greatness, even if it takes her a million mistakes to get there. Armed with a book, pen, and notebook at all times, Emel is ready to conquer her world one word at a time.
Ema Peteva – Website Manager
Ema is a second-year student of English Language and Culture at the UvA. She has always been interested in literature and how it reflects life. Her English teachers throughout her childhood were her mentors and she will always remember them. Everyday rituals play a big part in her life, such as
finding new music artists or reading obscure articles before bed. Ema wants to travel across Latin America, meet interesting people, gather knowledge and at some point, spend a month in the mountains to bask in the beauty and serenity of nature.
