Meeting the Board: Brendon & Sasha

Today Writer’s Block is proud to introduce two brand-new board members. We love them, and we hope you will, too.

Brendon Booth-Jones – General Editor

I left the sunny, troubled shores of South Africa seven years ago in search of something: some vague, profound notions of selfhood and community, or perhaps just in search of a way to procrastinate from facing that selfhood and having a hell of a lot of fun while doing so.

I wandered far and wide and learned many important things such as how to stay calm when deciding on the most comfortable tropical island hammock, how to resist reaching for that seventh French crepe, and how to nod and smile politely when a customer asks for avocado on toast with no avocado.

And somewhere along the way I became obsessed with the art of literature. This, along with travelling, transformed the way I saw myself and the world. I began to see the world, as Borges said, with infinite wonder and infinite pity.

I recently found myself neck-deep in an English degree at the University of Amsterdam with the shiny title of General Editor of the illustrious Writer’s Block Magazine tacked to my name. I feel incredibly lucky to be working alongside such talented board members, and I cannot wait to see what 2019 has in store for this publication and all the talented writers and artists who we will feature.

Sasha Chaboksavar – Secretary

Hi, my name is Sasha and I’m Writer’s Block’s new secretary. I’m in my second year of English BA and an aspiring screenwriter and/or editor. Young adults, nowadays, are heavily influenced by tv shows (same to be honest) and I plan to reach them by co-writing scripts that represent healthy relationships and representation. So, expect to hear from me in the future. Hah, I’m joking who has ever heard of famous screenwriters? But you’ll definitely hear from me as editor. Send in your writing and I’d be happy to read it and give you feedback.
